With the aim of enhancing knowledge and the quality of configuration management activities, a “Configuration Management Workshop” was held by Tinhvan Group on June 30th with the participation of many key managers and programmers.
Management reprentatives from Tinhvan Group includes Mr. Pham Thuc Truong Luong, VP of Products, International Relations, QMR; Mr. Nguyen Son Tung, COO of Tinhvan Outsourcing, Mr. Nguyen Vinh Tho, CTO of Tinhvan Solutions, and Mr.– Nguyen Khanh Duy, CTO of Tinhvan Telecom.
At the workshop, issues relating to configuration management as well as effective management tools were presented by speakers: “Configuration Management for Java-based projects using Continuum automatic tool builder” presented by Ngo Phan Hai – the Project Manager of TVO; “Configuration Management for .Net-based projects using Team Foundation Server tool” by Nguyen Thanh Hai – the head of TVS software solution department and “Management of distributed configuration for Bazzar – based projects” by Nguyen Khanh Duy – TVT’s CTO
A survey pointed out that 80% of the participants evaluated the workshop to be informative and useful by providing necessary knowledge of the current configuration management situations and related concerns in all Tinhvan Group’s members. Some recommendations from different departments raised at the workshop will be mentioned in improvement proposal for management’s’ consideration.
Software configuration management is one of the processes in software development created in about 20 years ago. This process helps developers control changes and the structure of software systems. It is easy to find requirements on CM directly or indirectly in popular software development processes models such as CMM/CMMI, ISO 15504 or ISO 9001:2000. In CMM and CMMI, configuration managent is a mandatory process from level 2 – the most basic level of these two models.
Currently, Tinhvan Group is implementing all 3 quality control systems simultaneously: ISO 9001:2008, ISO/IEC 27001:2005 and CMMI level 3. Reality shows that a good configuration management process can hep solve a variety of challenges in the projects, especially in big projects. Therefore, Tinhvan Group treats with great importance on configuration management activities, and the “Configuration Management” work-shop on June 30th is one of the pratical and neccessary activities in order to enhance the undersntanding as well as the further completion of Tinhvan Group’s quality control system.
