2012 Slogan: Discipline for Excellence

Welcoming the new year 2012, the Board of Directors of Tinh Van Group has set the operational slogan: "Discipline for Excellence." This slogan will become the guiding spirit for all member units and departments within Tinh Van Group, aiming to maximize internal strength, seize opportunities quickly, and overcome difficulties for sustainable development.
2011 was a year of many difficulties and challenges, with the economic recession continuing to spread globally and threatening to collapse many major economies in Europe. In Vietnam, inflation approached 20%, the CPI index soared, bank interest rates hit record highs, the stock market plummeted uncontrollably, real estate lost liquidity, and confidence declined...
In that context, Tinh Van Group's business results in 2011 still achieved commendable accomplishments, with 100% growth compared to 2010.
These achievements were made possible thanks to the contributions of hundreds of Tinh Van Group employees who worked day and night, striving to complete assigned tasks. The 2011 slogan "Plow Deep, Hoe Well" affirmed its correctness in the 2011 economic context, helping Tinh Van achieve most of its goals. This slogan helped all of us, from leaders to employees, stay focused on our best professional capabilities, be diligent and dedicated in our work, and not shy away from difficulties and hardships, cultivating the clearly planned fields.
This year, 2012, Tinh Van Group's action slogan will be:
"Discipline for Excellence"
Tinh Van is a company with a rich history, a unique culture, over 17 years of development, many major clients, numerous member units operating in different fields, a large number of employees, dozens of well-known software products on the market, and a professional management and quality control system with international standards...
But we have never been "excellent." The quality of Tinh Van's products is not enough to be "excellent"; in fact, some products launched on the market have poor quality. Revenue is not enough to be "excellent"; we even lag behind some smaller companies. The brand is not enough to be "excellent"; it is even vague and unclear. Labor efficiency is not "excellent," leading to low employee income... All these shortcomings are fundamentally due to Tinh Van's lack of a "Culture of Discipline."
Moreover, 2012 is forecast to be a terrible year economically, very difficult for most businesses. Collapse may occur, and a significant percentage of businesses may go bankrupt. Cash was already a major issue in 2011, and it will become even scarcer, with interest rates rising and becoming much harder to mobilize. Tinh Van's traditional project market, especially for TVS, TVC, and TVHCM, will be heavily affected due to cuts in public investment. The mass market, related to TVT and MCC, will also decline as people tighten spending.
We cannot enter the eye of the 2012 storm with these non-excellent attributes.
"Culture of Discipline" (*) is a concept from Jim Collins' book "Good to Great," which found that all great companies have a "Culture of Discipline." When an organization has a "Culture of Discipline," there is less need for formal discipline. The essence of a "Culture of Discipline" is self-control, and self-discipline enables the achievement of excellence.
Most individuals and businesses in our country lack discipline, easily allowing themselves to act contrary to common goals. We allow ourselves behaviors that should be unacceptable. In a "Culture of Discipline," we need to address this thoroughly, first within ourselves, then with others.
A "Culture of Discipline" rejects any violation of the organization's purposes and values. Those who choose otherwise will be eliminated. A "Culture of Discipline" requires everyone to adhere to a system, but within it, they have freedom and responsibility. The role of leaders becomes important as role models. Employees will observe leaders acting consistently, and leaders must inspire employees to think and act toward the organization's common goals.
In the upcoming 2012 crisis, a "Culture of Discipline" will help create a strong alignment with the common purpose of Tinh Van Group as well as fit the values of each individual, regardless of external events. The crisis will also contain many opportunities. A "Culture of Discipline" will help us stay alert to quickly seize the best opportunities with the highest consistency. At Tinh Van, only excellent products and services that drive strong revenue growth can exist, thanks to a "Culture of Discipline." This culture embodies love for work, respect for every product we create, and consistency from top to bottom.
Building a "Culture of Discipline" is a long process requiring much effort and sacrifice. Let us accept this for the common goal of the organization. As 2012 approaches, with the most peaceful mindset, we believe that a "Culture of Discipline" will help Tinh Van steadfastly weather the storm, and not only that, but excel.
(*) Those interested in learning more about the "Culture of Discipline" are advised to read Chapter 6 of Jim Collins' "Good to Great" or refer to additional articles on the internet. This is also the book that introduced the "Bus Philosophy" concept, which is very suitable for Tinh Van's culture.
