Tinh Van people joyfully celebrate Cold Food Festival

The event, organized by the Communications Department for all employees of Tinhvan Group on the occasion of the Cold Food Festival, took place in a joyful and cozy atmosphere yesterday afternoon, April 1, 2014, at the Hanoi headquarters.

Participating in the event, Tinhvaners felt as if they were reliving the atmosphere of the traditional Cold Food Festival by making plates of floating rice dumplings (bánh trôi, bánh chay) with ingredients provided by the organizing committee and a team of pastry artisans.

Everyone expressed their delight at being reminded of a meaningful traditional activity. Ms. Mai Thi Thanh Tam, TVC, shared: "Today was so much fun. It's the first time at Tinh Van that I've celebrated the Cold Food Festival. With work and life being so busy, I often don't pay attention to these traditional holidays." Meanwhile, Mai Thuy - TVT confided: "Seeing people on Facebook making cakes made me crave them, but I live alone in Hanoi, so I felt hesitant. Now, organizing a party with floating rice dumplings is very reasonable. The leadership and colleagues were all excited because 'We got to eat right on time'."

Some thoughtful colleagues even saved portions for those who were out on the field and hadn't made it back to the office yet.

This activity aimed to recall the legend of "Mother of the Highlands," a custom passed down from the early days of Vietnam. Every year on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month, people traditionally make floating rice dumplings to offer to the Mother of the Highlands, the goddess of sericulture, revered as the Southern Holy Mother of the Vietnamese people. She is believed to have sent rain to the world so that Mother Earth could nurture seeds to sprout, ensuring bountiful harvests and a prosperous life.

The event was one of several activities proposed by the Communications Department to enhance Tinhvaners' understanding and experience of Vietnamese culture.
