Tinh Van Group's Libol Digital Continues to Accompany Vietnam's Library Sector

On October 30, 2017, in Quy Nhon City, the Northern University Library Association (NALA) in coordination with Quang Trung University organized a workshop on the theme “Building Shared Open Internal Learning Resources in Vietnamese University Libraries.”
The workshop was attended by over 50 delegates from university libraries not only in the northern region but also in the central region and Ho Chi Minh City, along with leaders of the Vietnam Library Association, the National Library, provincial and city libraries, and several IT solution providers in the library field.

Building digital resource repositories is a development trend for modern libraries, especially as society's habits and methods of receiving information change. Therefore, the presentations and contributions focused on providing solutions to connect and share internal digital learning resources among Vietnamese university libraries, how to comply with legal regulations on copyright while enabling readers to access valuable digital resources that libraries have invested significant effort and budget to collect.
Also at this workshop, the Library and Information Center of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (LIC) introduced an integrated search portal for the internal digital resource repository of four Vietnamese and Singaporean university libraries, thereby proposing a model for connecting with other institutions in the future. Currently, LIC has built a digital document repository consisting of 50,000 documents of high scientific value, covering all fields of training and research at VNU. Each year, this internal resource repository grows by 8,000 to 10,000 new documents, including scientific research projects, theses, dissertations, books from VNU Press, and proceedings of domestic and international scientific conferences.
To help students and staff of VNU effectively exploit this digital resource repository, LIC is deploying the Bookworm software solution from Tinh Van Group. This is an application for borrowing and reading e-books for library readers, installable on various devices such as computers, tablets, and smartphones, enabling them to access and utilize the university's internal resources conveniently anytime, anywhere. At the same time, Bookworm is also a solution for libraries to package and manage internal digital resources, define borrowing policies, protect digital copyrights for documents, and share them with other libraries.
Mr. Pham Thuc Truong Luong, representing Tinh Van Group, presented the Libol Digital and Bookworm digital library solutions and how this tool supports the construction of a shared internal document repository for NALA. Mr. Luong stated: “The shift of libraries to the online digital environment is vital for these organizations to maintain their role as important knowledge channels for readers. However, it is necessary to ensure the rights of readers, libraries, as well as authors and publishers when documents are exploited in digital form. Simply put, the technology solution must make the purchasing, borrowing, and returning of e-books in libraries similar to that of printed books.”
