Open Letter to Tinhvaners on the Last Day of 2013

Dear friends,
Entering 2014, the economy is forecast to continue facing many difficulties, with increasing competitive pressure domestically and especially from abroad. In the past November, the Board of Directors carried out a full strategy alignment to create a clear picture for the overall development of the entire Tinh Van Ecosystem.
To successfully achieve our strategic goals, we have prepared financial resources, actively recruited talents, and perfected management tools... But that is still not enough! The world is changing very rapidly, and all six units in the group are operating in a knowledge economy, which is full of pressure on thinking and creativity. The only way to survive is to know how to change and adapt. The only way to grow is to know how to cultivate and learn.
There is no other path for you, dear Tinhvaners, except to continuously cultivate yourselves, continuously absorb new knowledge to meet the increasingly challenging, demanding, and complex job requirements. It should also be noted that proactive self-cultivation, self-learning, and self-absorption will always be much more effective than being trained.
Why learn? First, to accumulate value for yourself, and then to contribute more value to the entire organization.
Who needs to learn? Everyone, from leaders to employees, from the young to the seasoned. If you are young but reluctant to improve, your future will hardly be bright. If you are older but complacent and reluctant to learn, you will certainly fall behind quickly and soon fail to meet the organization's requirements.
What to learn? Learn everything directly or indirectly related to the work you are handling. At the same time, delve as deeply as possible into the business field your unit operates in.
When to learn? Anyone can complain that they are too busy to learn and improve. So instead of scrolling through Facebook for an hour each day, or reading useless clickbait articles on online newspapers, spend time cultivating necessary knowledge. You can learn in the evening or any free time during weekends.
How to learn? The best way is to learn online. With the vast sea of information on the internet and countless free online services, anyone can now learn any knowledge—it's just a matter of wanting to or not. It is also very good to learn from friends, colleagues, bosses, and from your own subordinates.
Not only knowledge, but you should also continuously cultivate your character and culture—these will create important values, your essence, and your uniqueness.
All our businesses are under pressure and demand creativity. Creativity can only sprout and grow in an environment full of knowledge. And such an environment can only be formed when every member constantly learns and continuously cultivates.
Therefore, the 2014 slogan will be: "CONTINUOUSLY CULTIVATE"

In the book "What Do Vietnamese Boys Do?" published in 1943 by Mr. Hoàng Đạo Thúy, there is a vivid description of the image of Vietnamese boys as follows:
"A strong and bold person. Walks straight without leaning or swaying. Parts the air as he advances. His eyes are fixed on a goal. His determination shows he will go all the way. His hands are strong and flexible, his legs firm and enduring, his chest breathes as if absorbing the strength of nature as his own. His skin is not bright and beautiful, but it is weathered by wind and frost.
At home, he nurtures happiness for his family; parents are delighted to have such a son, siblings are happy to have such a brother, and the clan places hope in him.
At work, everyone can trust him; when he speaks, people believe him; when he promises, he keeps his word; when he takes on a task, he completes it...
He has a group of friends. They go out together to high mountains and wide seas, discussing the reasons for rise and fall; they do not rely on others for work; whenever they overcome a difficulty or survive a danger, while others call it hardship, they call it pleasure.
The nation will be strong, life will be beautiful because of such young people."
Exactly 70 years later, what are Vietnamese boys doing in 2013? Surely many are reading online news, scrolling through Facebook, reading trashy articles. Indulging in idle chatter, burying their heads in iPhones. Or lounging around at morning coffee, hanging out aimlessly. Or getting drunk on alcohol in the afternoon, partying hard. Or trying to make a quick buck by any means, or dreaming of getting rich fast without knowing patience. Full of ambition but lacking aspiration. When asked about ideals, they stammer vaguely; when sharing about the meaning of life, they only talk about enjoyment. Those two images are truly far apart.

While I know that life is always changing and we cannot apply the templates of different eras to each other, I still believe there are eternal and enduring values of Truth – Goodness – Beauty. On this last day of the old year, if asked what wish I have for the new year 2014, I wish that each of us always has burning aspirations, noble passions, that I can see the fire in your eyes and feel the enthusiasm in your hearts. And I wish that each person will continuously cultivate, never stop learning, and never stop accumulating value for themselves and for the entire organization.
Wishing all of you and your families a new year 2014 full of health and joy. Wishing our Tinh Van continued success and strong growth, always an ideal environment for breakthrough creativity, always a passionate, united, and cohesive team for things greater than daily livelihood.
