Hoa Binh: The First English Lesson with Classbook

On October 10, 2014, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in collaboration with Intel Vietnam donated a modern classroom using the Classbook electronic textbook to Dich Giao Secondary School, Dich Giao Commune, Tan Lap District, Hoa Binh Province.
Following two previous events of donating classrooms using Classbook electronic textbooks in Thai Binh (August 2014) and Nghe An (September 2014), the event in Hoa Binh is the third achievement in the process of fulfilling the commitment of Intel and its partners to accompany the "Computers for Life" program launched by the Ministry of Information and Communications in March 2014 in Thai Nguyen.
The donation ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong, Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Hoa Binh Province – Mr. Nguyen Hoang Thu, representatives of the International Cooperation Department, Intel Vietnam, Tinh Van Group Joint Stock Company, the Educational E-book Joint Stock Company under the Vietnam Education Publishing House, along with leaders of the People's Committee of Hoa Binh Province.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong hopes the school will use the Classbook classroom effectively
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong expressed his emotion when representing the Ministry of Information and Communications and businesses to present a meaningful gift to the teachers and students of Dich Giao Secondary School: an interactive classroom with 20 Classbook electronic textbook devices. The Deputy Minister hopes that this modern educational equipment will actively contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning for the school's teachers and students.
7th-grade students enthusiastically participate in group discussion methods with Classbook electronic textbooks
The highlight of the program was a sample lesson using the Classbook electronic textbook for the English subject of 7th-grade students. This was the first time the program introduced an interactive teaching and learning solution between teachers and students in an English lesson at the school. With the Classbook electronic textbook, students can fully use features such as automatic dictionary lookup or pronunciation of each word, sentence, and dialogue with native voice by touch. These are particularly smart features that help students effectively practice listening and speaking skills. Additionally, when connected to the Internet, the electronic textbook provides an interactive teaching and learning solution, allowing students to do multiple-choice exercises directly on the device, and teachers can grade instantly to assess students' understanding.
As the teacher directly conducting the English lesson with the Classbook electronic textbook, Mr. Pham Trung Thanh – English teacher at Dich Giao Secondary School, said: "For our students, mainly Muong ethnic students with difficult learning conditions, the Classbook electronic textbook device has truly become a very meaningful gift. Instead of using traditional English textbooks with supporting devices like tapes, radios, and paper dictionaries, now they can effectively learn English with just one device. Features such as word lookup, translation, word memorization, on-device multiple-choice exercises, and direct interaction with the teacher have truly made them more excited about English and more effective in learning. After experiencing this device, I believe Classbook will become a device that brings effective teaching and learning not only for English but also for all subjects in the school."
For most students of Dich Giao School, this was the first time they had been exposed to an electronic device with a touch screen like Classbook. Although initially a bit nervous and unfamiliar, they quickly grasped how to use the new learning tool and confidently participated in the lesson activities. Student Bui Thi Thao, a 7th-grade student, said: "Classbook helps me learn more easily and access more materials to improve my knowledge. For English, Classbook helps me pronounce correctly and learn better." Another student enthusiastically shared: "Today's lesson, I liked the group games the most. We have never learned this way before."
The interactive classroom using Classbook electronic textbooks is a technological solution that concretizes the policy of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in the education sector of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET). With pre-installed content including a full set of over 300 electronic textbooks according to the standard curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Training for three levels: Primary, Secondary, and High School, the Classbook electronic textbook is not merely a digital version of traditional books but also combines multimedia content such as high-quality audio, images, illustrative video clips, simulation applications, and virtual experiments, making the knowledge in the books intuitive and vivid, allowing users to easily interact while learning.
To date, the Classbook electronic textbook has been present in 25 provinces and cities nationwide with over 10,000 teachers and students using it. With features and benefits that have been proven to improve the quality of teaching and learning, 100 schools have now deployed and applied it in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, and other localities.
